Events – Future, Present and Past

December 7th: Candlelight Concert 2017

One year on from our first concert, Clapham Chorus has grown from strength to strength and now has 25 members.  This year, we hosted an intimate evening of gentle harmonies and featured for the very first time, a couple of soloists.  We brought festive spirit to the proceedings with mince pies and wine, and a mass rendition of ‘Silent Night’ to complete the evening.  Once again, there was a collection for our nominated charity, Glass Door, which offers food, shelter and ongoing support for the homeless.

May 18th: Wandsworth Fringe 2017

Clapham Chorus and Friends presented Celebrate All Voices at the Balham Bowls Club, 7-9 Ramsden Road SW12 8QX on Thursday 18th May at 8pm. This event was part of the Wandsworth Arts Fringe 2017 festival. Our presentation at the Balham Bowls Club consisted of three local choirs, which offered an exciting and entertaining evening with a range of music and styles. The event was very well attended with standing room only for some! Donations were collected at the event for Glass Door, our nominated local charity offering emergency shelter in winter to 100 men and women in churches across the boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Wandsworth. All our guest choirs thought the event really worth participating in and the organisers of the Festival are looking to expand the event next year.

March 30th: Spring Concert 2017

Our second ‘end of term’ concert at the Church of the Ascension, Balham Hill, held on the warmest Spring day in March, began with an uplifting gospel song, followed by some more contemporary compositions and finishing with a lilting Scottish air dating back to the 1600s. The audience was invited to experience singing in four part harmony and joined in to ‘Celebrate All Voices’ with the support of the choir, creating a beautifully rich and joyous sound. The evening ended on a truly positive note with donations collected in support of Glass Door, the choir’s nominated charity, well in excess of the amount previously collected. Our heartfelt Thanks go out to all who came to hear us and who donated so generously.

Clapham Chorus performed at our first end of term concert at the Church of the Ascension, Balham Hill. Take a look at our Gallery page to watch a video of part of the concert. The hall was decorated with our new logo and chairs were laid out in cafe style which allowed our audience of friends, family and supporters to enjoy nibbles and drinks while listening to songs from around the world.

Southbank Winter Festival 2016 ConcertDecember 3rd: Southbank Winter Festival 2016

Clapham Chorus performed a joint concert with our friends from Southfields Sings at the Southbank Winter Festival. We sang for about half an hour with a programme of about 10 songs. We had done this gig last year under our previous incarnation of Sing-It-Together so knew what to expect…but this time it didn’t rain and we attracted quite a passing crowd of Christmas shoppers and visitors to the winter sights of the glorious South Bank. We were well fortified with yuletide cheer, courtesy of our very own quartermaster, Annie.
